24 alternatives to Whataaabout.com – unique activity ideas for the holiday break
Hi HN, I’ve been working on whataaabout.com with a friend, while learning to code. It's a fun little website for those short on time but seeking new experiences. It started from a question, "when was the last time you did an experience you had never done before?". As human beings we need some degree of novelty, to expose ourselves to the unfamiliar and keep learning throughout our lives. So to add a spark to my daily routine and keep novelty coming my way, I started collecting ideas of interesting and unusual activities I’d like to try out sooner or later. The main selection criteria is…
Whataaabout.com is a website that suggests short, unusual activities for people looking to try something new during their time off. Hi HN! It’s hard to find interesting people to work with on your ideas. Our solution: index the /about, /ideas, /now pages of 1000s of personal websites. There are thousands of cool personal sites out there, with amazing ideas on them, but there’s nowhere to easily search through. So we built a simple site that indexes 7k+ personal sites [0]. We were inspired by Derek Sivers’ Now page movement [1] and other IndieWeb directories [2], but we figured that it would be more useful if we: * Let you search directly across personal sites without having to visit them * Take the content…

Bucketly▲134hi HN! I managed my bucket list (things to do before I die) in the .md file but I've found it not quite effective, so I built the website. I want to deliver high quality and yet collaborative catalog of ideas to have. Traditional todo lists lacks several things in the context of the bucket list -> these are not public / social, there is no catalog to inspire, there's no catalog to inspire you, lack of gamification, etc. Also, would be nice to have a lifetime visual history of personal achievements. All feedback is welcome.

Hey HN! I built StretchMyTimeOff as a quick experiment using Cursor (Anysphere's AI code editor) and GPT-4o to see how far AI could go in building a simple, functional site. What it does: The site helps you get the most out of your vacation by suggesting optimal days to take off around national holidays, maximizing long breaks with minimal vacation days, anywhere in the world and for any calendar year. It's an idea I've had for a while, and building the algorithm with GPT was a fun challenge. Any feedback or ideas I'm all ears :)

We hope to help you get those thoughts out of your mind and focus on what's important: getting it done. http://www.whyamidoingit.com "Why Am I Doing It?" Hey HN. I've just launched my very first webappp and would love your feedback. http://www.7bks.com It's a book list sharing website - kind of like playlists for bookworms. The site is built on pyton/appengine - and I learned to code in under 4 weeks to build the site. There's more details on the background of the site here: http://www.7bks.com/blog/179001 I've also published the full Python code for the site here: https://gist.github.com/670034 Feedback is really important to me and I want to work hard to make the site better so any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.
