Hi HN, I’ve been working on whataaabout.com with a friend, while learning to code. It's a fun little website for those short on time but seeking new experiences. It started from a question, "when was the last time you did an experience you had never done before?". As human beings we need some degree of novelty, to expose ourselves to the unfamiliar and keep learning throughout our lives. So to add a spark to my daily routine and keep novelty coming my way, I started collecting ideas of interesting and unusual activities I’d like to try out sooner or later. The main selection criteria is…

I love the looks and UX of the Google calendar. But I wanted to have a version I could use more freely in my own projects, still looking similar to the one from Google.

Hey my name is Crisa and this is my first post here on HN. I love this site and it inspired me to build a clone of it for my newsletter. Instead of having a boring landing page, I hope to gather articles, blogs, interesting projects on my own platform. I would appreciate any feedback, good or bad so that I can improve the site. Did this during the holidays and just finished with few extra features: http://thingsand.me/ And an example blog: http://thingsand.me/jori I tried to keep the platform as simple as possible and focus on the images instead of making yet another blogging platform. Time will tell for what people are going to use it. I hope to add API soon (iPhone uploader would be awesome to blog daily activities).

Nowa▲8Ever feel exhausted by the endless back-and-forth of "When should we meet?" and "How much does everyone owe?" when organizing events with friends or family? I've been there too, and found that existing tools were either too feature-heavy or required tedious account setup. That's why I built Nowa - an event management app focused on just the essentials that works by simply sharing a URL, no registration required. Key Features No-signup invitations - Just share a URL or QR code and anyone can join instantly. I prioritized simplicity so even grandparents can use it without confusion. Intuitive…

A year and a half after I published https://HackYourNews.com, I've rewritten it to be neater and added support for more news sources. HackYourNews.com v1 had a great response on HN [1] and consistently sees ~2k weekly unique visitors. There were many long-standing requests that I wanted to fulfill (thanks for your patience!): a proper dark mode, correct rendering on mobile devices, and more cogent summaries. This rewrite is the result. gpt-4o-mini reduces the cost of summarization to an absurd degree, so it's now sustainable to keep this free service going! Someday, I hope to use…

Y'all, I've been reading about the "nuclear option" that some internet giants are considering in order to highlight SOPA and I wondered why they didn't just put a banner saying to "Pay attention to SOPA" on their sites. I realized that it would only take a bit of time to build the service, so I did. It's built with Python, App Engine (my first time using it), Twitter's Bootstrap and GitHub. Has some rudimentary geolocating included so that politicians can be highlighted. It's a very early version (ie. I only have data for CA politicians), but I figured HN would enjoy seeing it early,…
