www.sopajs.org - simple SOPA banner for your website

Y'all, I've been reading about the "nuclear option" that some internet giants are considering in order to highlight SOPA and I wondered why they didn't just put a banner saying to "Pay attention to SOPA" on their sites. I realized that it would only take a bit of time to build the service, so I did. It's built with Python, App Engine (my first time using it), Twitter's Bootstrap and GitHub. Has some rudimentary geolocating included so that politicians can be highlighted. It's a very early version (ie. I only have data for CA politicians), but I figured HN would enjoy seeing it early,…

What it does

In the maker’s words, at launch

Y'all, I've been reading about the "nuclear option" that some internet giants are considering in order to highlight SOPA and I wondered why they didn't just put a banner saying to "Pay attention to SOPA" on their sites. I realized that it would only take a bit of time to build the service, so I did. It's built with Python, App Engine (my first time using it), Twitter's Bootstrap and GitHub. Has some rudimentary geolocating included so that politicians can be highlighted. It's a very early version (ie. I only have data for CA politicians), but I figured HN would enjoy seeing it early, especially since it needs more love around: * Increasing the list of SOPA supporters. * Improving styling. * Increasing functionality. Usage: just add the following to your page: <script type="text/javascript" src="//sopajs.appspot.com/sopa.js"> </script> Site: http://www.sopajs.org Code: http://github.com/sopja/sopajs * Bonus points to the first person to point out that the domain is registered on GoDaddy...

We made a site to crowd fund lobbying.2012 · ▲50

Hey guys, So we made this site with the goal of funding a lobbyist to represent the 99%. The money comes from small pledges of $5 and up. So far we've raised nearly $10k in under a week. We're focusing fund raising efforts on causes. I'm the founder and lead developer, and I'd love to hear this community's thoughts on the project as well as answer any questions. Thanks guys! http://www.wethelobby.com/

    Telescope, a news reader app2017 · ▲90

I got fed up with the news reader apps out there so I decided to make my own. Its a simple concept where it tracks all your favorite news sources for new posts and the social shares it received. Then it ranks it HN/Reddit style using social shares as upvotes. It's not meant to be alternative to HN, just a focused way to track your favorite sources. Please try it out and let me know what do you think, http://telescope.surf/ Note: you can do 'Add to Homescreen' on mobile to make it as an app. Please leave a feedback or any feature wishlist you may have. Thanks!

Git(lab), Jenkins, Redmine and IRC on our wall2013 · ▲28

I've always dreamed about a project like that when looking at status boards at other companies. We finally had the time to do our own. Here are some photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/robert_olejnik/sets/72157633736087905/ The stack: Django, mustache.js, Chart.js, Bootstrap and custom Supybot plugin. Maybe will be inspiration for someone else ;-) Do you guys have similar status boards? Cheers, Robert.

We were going to launch our new product into beta tomorrow (http://www.verelo.com - web monitoring) however, it just so happens to be the same day of the SOPA protests. We're going to black out in support. Feel free to take a peek before we do black out, we'd love feedback on our web design. http://verelo.com

    Super simple social poll app2012 · ▲8

I recently launched my first web app, polls.io. It's a super simple polling app that doesn't require sign-up. In my opinion, this is the most simple/social polling app out there. There are certainly many similar apps out there, but I think this one stands out as it straight-forward and doesn't have any unnecessary "mess" getting in the way of the actual poll. From idea to inception this took about a week. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. We'll be listening to feedback in the coming days/weeks in order to make the proper changes. I'd love to hear your guys' thoughts and feedback!…

My side project that searches the web for technologies2011 · ▲22

Hello HN! I've been working on http://underthesite.com for the last month and now think it is ready for some full strength HN feedback. What do you guys think? It crawls up to 10 pages of a given site while you wait, looking for community-provided CSS / XPath selectors and regular expressions. Additionally, I'd like to appeal to you to submit matchers for technologies that you care about. Technologies are easy to add, so add your favorite jQuery plugins, analytics tools, client-side node.js wrappers, what have you. I'm going to be running a large crawl in the next few days and want to make…
