We built a free Stop SOPA/PIPA notification bar for sites
We built this free little notification bar so you could add it to your site and show your opposition to PIPA/SOPA without having to black out. The text never changes, there's no account needed or anything like that, and you can take it down whenever.
We built a free Stop SOPA/PIPA notification bar for sites launched on January 17, 2012 with 57 votes, #25 of 306 launches that month and more than 90% of that year's launches. The site was not reachable when checked in September 2026.
In plain words
A free notification bar that website owners can add to their sites to display opposition to SOPA and PIPA legislation without completely blacking out their content. The bar requires no account setup, uses fixed text, and can be removed at any time. Designed as a lighter alternative to full-site blackouts, it lets site owners take a political stance while keeping their sites functional.

Y'all, I've been reading about the "nuclear option" that some internet giants are considering in order to highlight SOPA and I wondered why they didn't just put a banner saying to "Pay attention to SOPA" on their sites. I realized that it would only take a bit of time to build the service, so I did. It's built with Python, App Engine (my first time using it), Twitter's Bootstrap and GitHub. Has some rudimentary geolocating included so that politicians can be highlighted. It's a very early version (ie. I only have data for CA politicians), but I figured HN would enjoy seeing it early,…

I have been taking Andrew Ng's Machine Learning course. The lecture module on Neural Networks ends with an intriguing video of the ALVINN autonomous car driving itself along normal roads at CMU in the mid 90s. I was inspired by that video to see what I could build myself. A link to my incomplete write up was posted a couple of weeks ago (ouch!) but I finally finished it and open sourced the code tonight (so you can build your own self driving car). What do you think? http://blog.davidsingleton.org/nnrccar https://github.com/dps/nnrccar
