1500cals is a calorie and excercise tracking tool that I built after losing 50kg myself in 2022 through simply watching what I ate and starting to exercise. The main "trick" I uncovered is simply to plan meals ahead. It sounds boring, it sounds annoying, but really its such a tiny effort for such outsized and life changing rewards that it should be a no-brainer. The existing tools I found were more focused on tracking after eating which is great in terms of capturing data and measuring over time, but I found really didn’t help me with locking in a routine. I wanted to fix this and bring some…

Lean bulk, cut, body recomp. Calculate maintenance caloriesJun 2026 · macrocodex.app · ▲28A very simple idea: when you eat more than your maintenance calories, you gain weight; when you eat less than your maintenance calories, you lose weight. By using an algorithm, we can accurately figure out your maintenance calories more accurately than traditional regression based formulas like katch mc ardle. It's way more accurate than calorie burn tracking devices like fitness bands and watches. (garmin/apple watch/whoop etc...) Traditionally, people often use static TDEE calculators which often over or underestimate for some by 100s calories. Chatgpt and TDEE calculators like…

Hi HN! I’m proud to share that we have built a real 3rd party iMessage client for Android. We did it by reverse engineering the iMessage protocol and encryption system. It's available to download today (no waitlist): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.beeper.ima and there's a technical writeup here: https://blog.beeper.com/p/how-beeper-mini-works. Unlike every other attempt to build an iMessage app for Android (including our first gen app), Beeper Mini does not use a Mac server relay in the cloud. The app connects directly to Apple…

Hey! I made Heynote entirely for my own use case. For many years, I always had an Emacs instance running with the scratch buffer open, even long after I had abandoned Emacs as my programming editor in favor of more recent IDE:s. The simplicity of having just one big scratch buffer appeals to me, but I still want to separate the different things I jot down somehow (without using tabs or similar). Previously, my solution was to insert a bunch of blank lines between the notes, but hitting C-A would still select the entire buffer. That's why I came up with the concept of "blocks", which turned…
