30 Days, 30 Demos

What it does

This year I decided to try #codevember , a challenge to write a creative experiment for every day of November. This post is a follow-up (and brain-dump) exploring some of the daily demos and lessons learned. The #codevember challenge calls for CodePen submissions, but I find prototyping much faster with a dedicated development server ( budo ) and a wide selection of node modules at my fingertips. After setting up a build/dev script, I was able to iterate quickly with babel for ES2015 and installify to auto-install npm modules as I coded. To inline GLSL snippets, I used glslify . In the end, the project racked up over 160 direct dependencies . If nothing else, it is a testament to the ease…from mattdesl.svbtle.com

  • I've been posting a sound I made everyday day for the last year2025 · listenfaster.com · ▲9

Hi - I'm part composer, part engineer and big fan of reading blogs where people learn out loud or with the garage door up by sharing their notebooks or journals. I've been doing this in Moleskines for years (going back to the 80s) but made it a new year's in 2024 resolution to post SOMETHING everyday, so long as I created the sound. I have a big archive of demos and seeds of ideas, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to do something with those in the process. Being so steeped in programming for the last 30 years, a healty chunk of this material is made via coding with Csound, TidalCycles, some raw…

    I'm a non-hacker "idea guy" and my weekend project took 1,670 + days2012 · readwriteweb.com · ▲21

I am a non-hacker "idea guy" with zero discernible talent. Like most, the story starts with me doing things the hard way. I dreamt of a tool that would save me countless hours. Like most of my ideas, it was supposed to die in a couple of hours, but this one had some legs.... "If I needed this, surely others did too" kept looping in my head. Could I get this built? Could I build it myself? Nah...too lazy to learn how, but before I did anything, I had to promise myself one thing: No more ideas! If ideas were sit-ups, I would have a six pack instead of this tire. It was a constant mental…

I had a dream on Nov 21, 2019 of a game. I woke up at 4:00pm that day, started programming it then, and 7 and 1/2 hours later, it was done. It's about you and a pink square going exploring. - otdav33/spelunko

    I built a recreational coding website for all ages2021 · ▲5

Hello all, I built about 2 years ago a coding website for kids, teens and adults: https://codeguppy.com Despite my efforts to promote the website it is still not well know. I post almost daily about it on Twitter at https://twitter.com/codeguppy ... but even there I don't have views. The website is fun... although I still have a ton of things to add. I appreciate if you take a look and suggest improvements and most importantly help me with spreading the news about this website. I really need a boost! Thanks all!

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
