404

VPNs hide where you are. 404 hides who you are.

What it does

Most privacy tools stop at your IP address. 404 goes deeper. Websites build a fingerprint of your device, allowing them to track you across time and build a profile of your online activity. This is done by tracking dozens of values: HTTP headers, TLS handshake, browser characteristics, and more. 404 is a local proxy that replaces your fingerprint with a consistent device profile. Built for journalists, lawyers, researchers, or anyone who believes their online behavior is their own business.

GeoSpoof – your VPN hides your IP, but the browser leaks your locationJul 2026 · geospoof.com · ▲19

Hello HN, I started building GeoSpoof after I noticed my IP says one country, but the browser still hands sites my real location. Websites were flagging me because of this discrepancy. I searched for a good geolocation spoofer, only to go down a rabbit hole that there are dozens of signals that your browser emits and no tool could cover them all on every platform. GeoSpoof overrides every location-related API to present one consistent signal for location. You can search a city, enter coordinates, or hit "Sync with VPN" to auto-detect your exit region and match it, which re-syncs when you…

    Local development with .local domains and HTTPS2023 · localcan.com · ▲84

Hi HN! I'm Jarek, and I've built this tool that allows publishing .local domains on the local network using mDNS. It also has a reverse proxy that handles HTTPS termination and port forwarding. I'm working on adding more features, like an index page with all available domains or allowing proxy redirects, so you could redirect from HTTP to HTTPS. Let me know if you have any questions or feedback!

With social media and now AI, its important to keep the indie web alive. There are many people who write frequently. Blogosphere tries to highlight them by fetching the recent posts from personal blogs across many categories. There are two versions: Minimal (HN-inspired, fast, static): https://text.blogosphere.app/ Non-minimal: https://blogosphere.app/ If you don't find your blog (or your favorite ones), please add them. I will review and approve it.
