73 Auto — True Car Ownership Cost
Know what a car will really cost before you buy it.
What it does
Check any UK car's DVLA record, MOT and tax status, then see its true total cost of ownership — depreciation, fuel, insurance and more.
Check any UK car's DVLA record, MOT and tax status, then see its true total cost of ownership, including depreciation, fuel, insurance and more.
73 Auto combines vehicle data with how you drive, where you live and how you plan to own the car to estimate its real ownership cost. Built using official UK vehicle data sources and transparent ownership-cost modelling. What you pay for the car, or the monthly finance payment, doesn't show the full ownership cost. Depreciation, fuel, insurance and servicing all add up over the time you own it, whether you're buying your first car or your fifth. Or the monthly payment, the one number most listings show you. Registration, vehicle identity, fuel/type and available official records. Mileage, driving style, commute and usage pattern where applicable. Each dot on the chart is a car. Horizontal scale = mileage. Vertical scale = price. The size of a dot = year (newer = larger), plus I colored 2007 .. 2011 in different colors to find "fresh" cars quicker. This is just some sample data from the last 24 hours, relatively cheap cars under $32,000 within 500 mile radius of NYC.

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
