9bro.com (meme comic creator)

This is my first programming endeavor - a simple meme comic creator inspired by my addiction to a friend's wildly successful site - 9gag.com. More than anything else, as my first project, I learned that I have a LOT more programming to learn. And also, that programming is freaking awesome regardless of my current ineptitude. I built the site using JS/jQuery/HTML/CSS and a dash of PHP (for base64 string to file conversions) and the Bing Image API for image searches (not currently working because Microsoft moved to pay model - boo!) all running on micro Linux instance on AWS. What it does

In the maker’s words, at launch

This is my first programming endeavor - a simple meme comic creator inspired by my addiction to a friend's wildly successful site - 9gag.com. More than anything else, as my first project, I learned that I have a LOT more programming to learn. And also, that programming is freaking awesome regardless of my current ineptitude. I built the site using JS/jQuery/HTML/CSS and a dash of PHP (for base64 string to file conversions) and the Bing Image API for image searches (not currently working because Microsoft moved to pay model - boo!) all running on micro Linux instance on AWS. For a few month learning all that stuff from scratch, I'm pretty proud of myself. For my next project, I've been playing with Node.js and MongoDB to try to sort out server-side magic. Anyway, Hacker News has been pretty inspiring for me - I started reading it about 10 months ago just out of curiosity and understood about 1% of what everyone was talking about. Now I understand...10%? That's progress at least, right? :)

    made a html5 game, polished it many many times2011 · hotbazooka.com · ▲211

hi all, I've always wanted to make my own game, but couldn't afford a thousand-dollar adobe (flash+photoshop) license. I'm not a talented programmer, have no degree in CS. But I understand some elements of design. So I got me a copy of ImpactJS, and after about 5 months of steep learning curve (at least for me), I managed to come up with a game. I also integrated it with a highscore and badge system, similar to what you get at Kongregate. You need to login with Google/OpenID to earn badges/scores. link is: http://www.hotbazooka.com/privatejoe hope to hear some feedback/questions from you guys!

http://hiphopblend.com The website is responsive, so check it out on tablet/mobile, too! I'm currently working on adding more features to the website. It's my first official project since I started to learn programming (PHP). I would love to get an audio player in the site, which would scrape the blogs for new audio, but I'm having some difficult getting there. I really appreciate any feedback about the site at all! A little about me: I've been making Wordpress sites at a digital agency for almost 9 months now (from scratch). A few months ago I became really interested in learning…

    I built a mockup/prototype/wireframe editor in ten weeks2012 · ▲42

Hi HN, After watching a lot of Show HN's here, it's finally my turn to show something. This is the first real project I have shipped, so it is extra special to me. For those who will inevitably ask why I made yet another mockup editor I covered it on our blog (http://blog.mocktailsapp.in/why-build-yet-another-mockup-editor-tm). Not all the features mentioned in that post have been implemented yet. As such Mocktails is pre-beta software and very minimal. It does not even have user accounts or any actual server side component at all for that matter (yet)! Our intention is to build Mocktails…

    My first website, Tweet2Cite, inspired by a HN post2013 · tweet2cite.com · ▲13

I recently finished the Front-End Web Development program at General Assembly in San Francisco. My final project turned out being a quick, easy, and free way to convert a Tweet into various properly formatted citations. Inspired by a Hacker News post a few months back: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3751295

    My 1st mobile app- A parasitic,anonymous,remixable img app for android2013 · ▲31

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.daveganly.yarrly Hi, this is Yarrly - my first android app, backed up server side by a mongo & node.js backend. It’s a two-panel image generator, and quite a fun experiment in a no-login (‘anonymous’) app. You generate two panel images using photos or gallery pics, and add text, then it’s uploaded to Yarrly.com - creating an instagram-like link. For example you create http://yarrly.com/y/4hhs6ryyq73da533d, then android intents mean that if you open that link on a device that has Yarrly, you can…
