A Beautiful Python GUI Framework
Hey HN, I built [*WinUp*](https://github.com/mebaadwaheed/winup) — a modern GUI framework for Python that works like React or Flutter, but with native Qt widgets under the hood. ### Why I made this: Python has great libraries for data, backend, scripting… but most GUI libraries are either: - Verbose (Tkinter, PyQt) - Old-school imperative - Slow or bloated (Electron) WinUp gives you: - Declarative UI with `@component` functions - Hot reload for real-time editing - CSS-like styling system - State binding with `State()` like React - Native rendering via PySide6 ### Example:…

A ridiculously Pythonic and powerful framework for building beautiful desktop applications. WinUp is a modern UI framework for Python that wraps the power of PySide6 (Qt) in a simple, declarative, and developer-friendly API. It's designed to let you build applications faster, write cleaner code, and enjoy the development process. WinUp now also supports building fully interactive, stateful web applications using the same Python-centric, component-based approach. The web module uses FastAPI and WebSockets under the hood to bring the simplicity of WinUp to the browser. Disclaimer: Web support is an optional feature. To use it, you must install the web dependencies: Desktop development in…from github.com

A modular Python TUI framework with a fast and pretty markup language2022 · github.com · ▲114PyTermGUI is a highly modular framework offering most of the features one would expect from a GUI library, such as a mature and open Widget API, animations, mouse support and other goodies, right inside the terminal! The markup language is another great feature of the library, and is used by practically all elements of it. It is based on Rich's implementation, but uses a more concise and easier to humanly parse syntax, while being over 10 times faster at parsing due to a long list of optimizations. There is a full Window Manager API included as well, allowing the user to move, resize and…

Generate styled web pages with just Python2023 · pyvibe.com · ▲229There are a lot of Python to web app frameworks going around these days but I wanted something that was a little more lightweight that just generates HTML pages and can be embedded in Flask or other Python web servers incrementally. PyVibe uses Python components to construct a page with styling that you can use in Flask, in a static site, or even in Pyodide.

Talanoa▲346Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

Hey HN! Pilots everywhere are required to keep a logbook of all their flying hours, aircraft, airports, and so on. Since I track everything digitally (some people still just use paper logbooks!), I put together some data visualizations and a few 3D globes to show my flying history. This globe is probably my favourite so far: https://jameshard.ing/pilot/globes/all If you’ve got ideas for other graphs or ways to show this kind of data, I’d love to hear them!

I was the main contributor to workout.lol, an open-source fitness app to easily build a workout routine. The project had traction (1.4k GitHub stars, 95 forks, ~20K visits/month), but was eventually sold due to video licensing hurdles. The new owner stopped maintaining it, and the repo went abandoned. Over the next 9 months, I sent 15 emails to try to save it : no replies. Feature requests & issues were ignored. The community was left with a "broken" tool let's say. I couldn't just let it die So I built the new version from scratch with the same open-source spirit, but a better…
