In plain words
A DIY airgapped, e-ink TOTP device is a do-it-yourself project for building a standalone two-factor authentication token. It uses e-ink display technology and operates without network connection, making it suitable for users who want a physical device to generate time-based one-time passwords. The project appeals to privacy-conscious individuals and hobbyists interested in hardware security who prefer building their own authentication tools rather than relying on software or commercial options.

Isn’t keeping your 2FA codes connected to the internet kinda insecure? In today’s episode of lets overcomplicate established procedures for marginal security improvements, I made an e-ink based, battery operated TOTP device. It’s a dedicated device to do TOTP, so instead of having to store them on your phone (where they can be remotely attacked), you store them in your bag (where they can be stolen 😄). However, since OTPs are the “something you have”, that’s alright, because random theives won’t have your passwords. It uses Pimoroni’s Badger2040 board, which is an awesome PCB that integrates an E-ink display and RP2040 microcontroller. On the back, there’s a DS3231 with wires soldered to…from karmanyaah.malhotra.cc

Hi. I heard HN likes e-paper gadgets so I wanted to share a little side project I’ve been working on with @sqfmi. We’re building Beepberry - a portable e-paper computer for hackers, designed for chatting on Beeper. My day job is running Beeper [0], but I will always have a soft spot for building hardware. I wanted to create a ‘weekend’ device that would let me stay in touch with friends and family, without the distractions of a full smartphone. I imagined a tiny, hackable e-paper screen with a physical keyboard, powered by a Raspberry Pi, that I could use to chat around my home…and pretty…

Outlines is a Python library that focuses on text generation with large language models. Brandon and I are not LLM experts and started the project a few months ago because we wanted to understand better how the generation process works. Our original background is probabilistic, relational and symbolic programming. Recently we came up with a fast way to generate text that matches a regex (https://blog.normalcomputing.ai/posts/2023-07-27-regex-guide...). The basic idea is simple: regular expressions have an equivalent Deterministic-Finite Automaton (DFA) representation. We…
