A parser for the ISO 10303 EXPRESS language for its 40th anniversary
A parser and code model for the ISO 10303 EXPRESS language with a lot more interesting stuff to come - rochus-keller/EXPRESS
A parser for the ISO 10303 EXPRESS language for its 40th anniversary launched on June 7, 2026 with 7 votes, #1,808 of 22,647 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches.
What it does
The goal of this project is to build an EXPRESS parser, code model, navigator (similar to https://github.com/rochus-keller/ActiveOberon ) and other tools suitable to study the various models published by the STEP (ISO 10303) standard series, and to experiment with interesting alternative uses of the language. EXPRESS is a formal information modeling language in development and use since 1982 and eventually standardized as ISO 10303-11 in 1994. It is the data definition backbone of STEP (STandard for the Exchange of Product model data), and provides a rigorous, machine-processable way to specify data schemas. Schemas are entities with typed attributes, inheritance hierarchies, aggregation…from github.com

The book page links to a blog post that explains how I got about it (and has a link to sample content), but the TL&DR is that I could not find a lot of books that were on "our" history _and_ were larded with technical details. So I set about writing one, and some five years later I'm happy to share the result. I think it's one of the few "computer history" books that has tons of code, but correct me if I'm wrong (I wrote this both to tell a story and to learn :-)). My favorite languages are Smalltalk and Lisp, but as an Emacs user, I've been using the latter for much longer and for my…

* https://sparser.io * https://github.com/Unibeautify/sparser This is my attempt at creating a universal language parser. It attempts to solve a couple of problems: * Support multiple languages * Recursively extend support to languages embedded within other languages * Output a uniform format for all supported languages This is a personal project so any feedback would be helpful. Something interesting I found after I built it is that this parser is not as fast to write output as many other JavaScript parsers, but its output is much faster to read from due to the…

Talanoa▲346Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

Homebrew 6.0.0▲1,481Today, I’m proud to announce Homebrew 6.0.0. The most significant changes since 5.1.0 are a new tap trust security mechanism, the new faster, smaller, default internal Homebrew JSON API, sandboxing on Linux, better defaults informed by our user survey, many brew bundle improvements, improved performance and initial support for macOS 27 (Golden Gate). Happy to discuss any questions here!

Hi HN! I was super frustrated at apps like tiktok and wechat preventing me from saving or downloading the animated gifs, so I made a little tool to turn a screen recording into a slack-sized emoji. Hope you get some value from this!
