A social media site for reviewing albums, movies, books, and podcasts

I’ve been working on a social media web app for reviewing works of entertainment with the hopes to compete against Goodreads and Letterboxd. I started working on this two and a half years ago and it has taught me a lot about full stack development, from Vue, and REST APIs, to hosting with AWS. It’s still very much so a work in progress, but it’s functional and I’d love any feedback I can get. I know other options exist, but I couldn’t find one that I like that had all of the different mediums, and I’d rather have them all in one place. Likewise didn’t give me enough freedom with rating, and…

In plain words

This is a social media platform for reviewing albums, movies, books, and podcasts all in one place. Built with Vue and AWS, it functions as a unified alternative to services like Goodreads and Letterboxd. The site allows users to rate and discuss entertainment across multiple mediums, offering customizable rating systems and community features. Still under development, it provides a centralized space for entertainment enthusiasts to share and discover reviews across different media types.

In the maker’s words, at launch

I’ve been working on a social media web app for reviewing works of entertainment with the hopes to compete against Goodreads and Letterboxd. I started working on this two and a half years ago and it has taught me a lot about full stack development, from Vue, and REST APIs, to hosting with AWS. I know other options exist, but I couldn’t find one that I like that had all of the different mediums, and I’d rather have them all in one place. Likewise didn’t give me enough freedom with rating, and seemed more focused on algorithm generated suggestions. Usage: A lot of functionality requires a login, so I created this guest account for you guys to use: username: showhnguest password: hackernews23 If you wind up liking it enough to create an account, feel free to invite your friends.

Hey fellow HN-ers, I'd like to ask HN about my latest startup: SocialFolders. We take a Dropbox-like approach to managing your content on your social networks by mirroring all the content you have on these networks in folders on your computer. Moving this content around, between folders or between services, is mirrored in the all-mighty "cloud" (ugh, I hate this word). We'd love to know what you think. We think our approach solves the problem of managing content at scale. We put together a quick 2'30 screencast to show HN how it works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4s2TFsVezZQ If you want…

    I'm Creating the Next Big Social Media Platform – Rated2024 · rated.fun · ▲5

Hey all, I've been working hard on my side project and will be trying to turn it into my main project now. Rated is a social rating platform for media, places and products. By having everything in one place, its easier to add friends, follow and compare ratings. There are cool data features like similarity scores between each users and predicted ratings for every item. The main aim is to help people discover the best content in a fun and social way. I've made a website (not that pretty yet) and launched on the app stores, but there's a long way to go. Still haven't properly validated the…

Outlines is a Python library that focuses on text generation with large language models. Brandon and I are not LLM experts and started the project a few months ago because we wanted to understand better how the generation process works. Our original background is probabilistic, relational and symbolic programming. Recently we came up with a fast way to generate text that matches a regex (https://blog.normalcomputing.ai/posts/2023-07-27-regex-guide...). The basic idea is simple: regular expressions have an equivalent Deterministic-Finite Automaton (DFA) representation. We…
