In plain words
A toy compiler that translates a subset of the Scala programming language into executable code. Designed for educational purposes, it demonstrates compiler construction concepts through a simplified implementation of Scala's syntax and features. The project serves developers and computer science students interested in understanding how programming language compilers work and how Scala code is processed.

🐌 Yours truly is not an expert in compilers but does enjoy diving into this topic and learning something new from time to time. Why write another toy compiler? First and foremost, because it’s a lot of fun. Also learning a great deal along the way comes with the package. Learning not only in terms of technical skills but also in terms of managing a project’s scope, complexity, and ultimately delivering a working program implementing the original idea. As someone who finds these reasons compelling, I developed a hobby compiler too . Read on to find out about things that might set this one apart. Cool 2020 is a small Scala subset which can be implemented in a time-frame reasonable for a…from mykolav.github.io

A small programming language where everything is pass-by-valueJan 2026 · github.com · ▲91This is a hobby project of mine that I started a few years ago to learn about programming language implementation. It was created 95% without AI, although a few recent commits include code from Gemini CLI. I started out following Crafting Interpreters, but gradually branched off that until I had almost nothing left in common. Tech stack: Rust, Cranelift (JIT compilation), LALRPOP (parser). Hey all My name is Sindre, and I am the CTO of Scrimba (YC S20). For the last 7 years, I have written all my web apps in a full-stack programming language called Imba. It compiles to JavaScript and its main goal is to make web developers more productive. I just launched a major overhaul of Imba, so I wanted to share it here on HN, in case anyone are interested in learning more about it. It is very opinionated, so some of you might not like it, but I would love to hear anyones feedback regardless. Constructive criticism appreciated! The backstory: Imba initially started in 2012 as an effort…

Hello HN, Over the last year we've been building ente[1], a privacy-friendly, easy-to-use alternative to Google Photos. We've so far built Android[2][3], iOS[4], web[5] apps that encrypt your files and back them up in the background. You can access these across your devices, and share them with other ente users, end-to-end encrypted. You can also use our electron app[6] to maintain a local copy of your backed up files. We've built a fault-tolerant data replication layer that replicates your data to two different storage providers in the EU. We will be providing additional replicas as an…
