Alpha Bravo — NATO Phonetic Alphabet

Learn the NATO phonetic alphabet through easy & fun games.

What it does

I'm a pilot and artist who got tired of watching people fumble spelling on the phone. The NATO phonetic alphabet fixes this — but nobody teaches it outside aviation. So I built Alpha Bravo: 6 interactive games to learn all 26 code words, a speed round, and a certificate you can print or add to your CV. One-time purchase, €3. Built by a pilot, for everyone.

Learn the NATO phonetic alphabet through 6 interactive games. Used by pilots, military, emergency services, call centres and more. One-time purchase, €3.

The spelling system used by pilots, military, and emergency services worldwide — learned in a week, used for life. Because "S for... Sugar?" should never happen again. You don't need to be a pilot to speak like one. This is the internationally recognised alphabet used by aviation, military, and emergency services — and now you can learn it too. "S for... Sugar? Stone? Sorry, Sierra?" We've all been there. Alpha Bravo gives you the system that ends that forever — 26 code words, one per letter, recognised worldwide. Spell your name, reference numbers, and email addresses with confidence on every call or interview. Sound like someone who knows exactly what they're doing. Every call is faster…from alphabravoapp.com

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
