amem — get started

mcp, agents, ai, tools

What it does

Cursor agents are great at exploring a repo — and expensive at rediscovering the same constraints every session. Decisions live in scrollback. You re-explain “don’t touch X” for the third time this week. amem is personal agent memory that stays on your machine: a private, searchable store of durable facts about your work — owners, file anchors, gotchas, decisions — so the next session starts oriented instead of cold. Try it: https://getamem.com

Memory, skills, tasks, and the desktop app — all of it. Facts stay in ~/.amem on your machine. One command, then open the UI. The next Cursor or Claude session starts with the constraints, gotchas, and file anchors you already paid to discover — not a cold grep of the whole tree. Memory holds what is true. Skills hold how you do it here, loaded only when relevant. Tasks are a Kanban the agent can move so follow-ups survive the chat. amem ships no model. When a session looks like a hard-won procedure, it nudges the agent to write a skill. You approve. The next agent does not rediscover it. The database lives in ~/.amem . The UI binds to localhost. No managed sync, no org wiki, no cloud RAG.…from getamem.com

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
