In plain words

Bubbleometer is a tool that measures fermentation activity by detecting the sound of bubbles passing through an airlock. Using a simple microphone connected to a laptop and a bash script with audio processing, it records and analyzes bubble sounds in hourly chunks to track CO2 production during fermentation. The system is designed for home fermenters who want to monitor their fermentation progress through acoustic analysis rather than manual observation.

From the sources

I developed a very simplistic algorithm to detect bubbles via audio from an airlock during fermentation. The airlock is simply filled with water, which makes bubbles and therefore bubble sounds, when CO2 passes through. You can see in this image, I simply used a cheap microphone attached to a laptop to record audio from the airlock. I wrote a simple bash script, which makes use of ‘sox’ to record the audio, it splits the audio into hourly chunks, which makes processing later easier. I took a very simplistic method to detect bubbles, by taking the FFT of chunks of audio and obtaining magnitudes from this. For each FFT, if there are N peaks above a certain magnitude, the chunk is simply…from anfractuosity.com

    Air Lab – A portable and open air quality measuring device2025 · networkedartifacts.com · ▲497

Hi HN! I’ve been working on an air quality measuring device called Air Lab for the past three years. It measures CO2, temperature, relative humidity, air pollutants (VOC, NOx), and atmospheric pressure. You can log and analyze the data directly on the device — no smartphone or laptop needed. To better show what the device can do and how it feels like, I spent the past week developing a web-based simulator using Emscripten. It runs the stock firmware with most features available except for networking. Check it out and let me know what you think! The firmware will be open-source and available…
