An open source SOTA SQL Agent in 1k lines of code
TextQL open-sources Ana Small, a barebones text-to-SQL tool that outperforms every major competitor on complex benchmarks -- and it is free to use.

In plain words
TextQL is an open source SQL agent built in approximately 1,000 lines of code. It enables users to query databases using natural language instead of writing SQL directly. The tool is designed for developers and data analysts who need to interact with databases more intuitively. Its compact codebase and open source nature make it accessible for customization and integration into other projects.

TextQL's pipeline, the entire system that turns a question into an answer, can seem complex. It is complex. To sanity check ourselves with the question "is any of this doing anything?" we built the most simple, barebones version of TextQL's Ana that we could: Ana Small . In short, it's really good. We tested Ana Small alongside Enterprise Ana and all the major text-to-SQL tools on the market using our internal Conglomerate benchmark. Conglomerate is an algorithmically generated ontology with over 100 tables, paired with test questions that require complicated SQL to answer, often requiring many joins. It's primarily designed to test Ana's ability to search by overwhelming it with thousands…from textql.com

We open sourced our entire text-to-SQL product2024 · github.com · ▲464Long story short: We (Dataherald) just open-sourced our entire codebase, including the core engine, the clients that interact with it and the backend application layer for authentication and RBAC. You can now use the full solution to build text-to-SQL into your product. The Problem: modern LLMs write syntactically correct SQL, but they struggle with real-world relational data. This is because real world data and schema is messy, natural language can often be ambiguous and LLMs are not trained on your specific dataset. Solution: The core NL-to-SQL engine in Dataherald is an LLM based agent…
SnapQL – Desktop app to query Postgres with AI2025 · github.com · ▲104SnapQL is an open-source desktop app (built with Electron) that lets you query your Postgres database using natural language. It’s schema-aware, so you don’t need to copy-paste your schema or write complex SQL by hand. Everything runs locally — your OpenAI API key, your data, and your queries — so it's secure and private. Just connect your DB, describe what you want, and SnapQL writes and runs the SQL for you.

GritQL, a Rust CLI for rewriting source code2024 · github.com · ▲280Hi everyone! I’m excited to open source GritQL, a Rust CLI for searching and transforming source code. GritQL comes from my experiences with conducting large scale refactors and migrations. Usually, I would start exploring a codebase with grep. This is easy to start with, but most migrations end up accumulating additional requirements like ensuring the right packages are imported and excluding cases which don’t have a viable migration path. Eventually, to build a complex migration, I usually ended up having to write a full codemod program with a tool like jscodeshift. This comes with its own…

I played around with GPT-3 to build this demo. Select a public BigQuery dataset and describe your query in natural English, then edit the generated SQL as needed and execute it. https://app.tabbydata.com/sql-assistant-demo
