Pranit Garje Apr 01, 2026 1 Share There’s a particular kind of failure that doesn’t announce itself. It doesn’t throw an exception or crash your server. It just makes your system feel slow — but only sometimes. Unpredictably. At the worst possible moment. That’s the failure I hit when building Aphelo , my from-scratch, Redis-like in-memory database written in C++. And the cause was hiding inside the most fundamental operation a hash table performs: resizing. When I first replaced std::map with a hash table, everything felt right. Point lookups dropped from O(log N) to O(1). Throughput numbers looked great on paper. With social media and now AI, its important to keep the indie web alive. There are many people who write frequently. Blogosphere tries to highlight them by fetching the recent posts from personal blogs across many categories. There are two versions: Minimal (HN-inspired, fast, static): https://text.blogosphere.app/ Non-minimal: https://blogosphere.app/ If you don't find your blog (or your favorite ones), please add them. I will review and approve it.
