App Archiver

Compress Mac apps in place and restore them in one click

What it does

App Archiver reclaims Mac disk space from apps you rarely use. Unlike cache cleaners, it creates lasting savings by working with the apps themselves. Optimize installed apps with native macOS compression, archive them in place as lightweight restorableapp bundles, or create verified ZIP and DMG backups. Archived apps stay visible in /Applications, Spotlight, Alfred, and Raycast, ready to restore with one click. Everything runs locally with no Internet access or data collection.

Save lasting disk space with lossless compression that keeps app code, resources, signatures, and integrity intact.

Reclaim space without rewriting an app's code or resources. Use transparent, lossless compression, archive an app where it already lives, or save a backup for later. I often run out of disk space because I like downloading useful Mac apps and keeping them for later. Deleting an app removes it from sight. Turning it into a file and putting it somewhere else makes it easy to forget. Many cleaner tools focus on caches that apps simply create again. So I built the kind of space saver I wanted. App Archiver can reduce the app itself while leaving a lightweight version in the same place. When I need the app again, I double-click it and restoration begins. Most cleaning tools either remove things…from apparchiver.com

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
