What it does
Aprender is the only language app built exclusivelyfor European Portuguese. Every other app teaches Brailian Portuguese or lumps both together. Aprender coers A1 to C2 with 72 structured lessons, 35 real-lif dialogue simulations set in Portugal, AI pronunciaton scoring, and a conversational AI tutor named Sofi. Built by an indie developer who moved to Portugal nd couldn't find a proper learning tool for the langage actually spoken there.

Hi HN, For over two years I've been working on an App to learn languages (currently French, Italian and Spanish), together with my partner, a language teacher. I think it is finally ready to share with this community! The idea is to introduce vocabulary and grammar whilst you read eBooks in your own language. I've found that it is easier to remember vocabulary 'in context' and with regular repetition. Plus you don't have to carve out dedicated time for language learning. I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it.
