AstroGrid launched on April 30, 2026 with 113 votes, #342 of 21,248 launches that month and more than 95% of that year's launches.

What it does

AstroGrid turns your browser into a spaceship. Fly from Earth's surface to the edge of the observable universe, all in real 3D. • 119K real stars (HYG catalog) with accurate B-V colors • NASA JPL orbital mechanics for the Solar System, in real time • 14K deep-sky objects, black holes with gravitational lensing, pulsars, supernovae, and gravitational-wave events • Runs entirely client-side. No install, no signup. Built for the curious students, educators, and space nerds.

AstroGrid is a free browser 3D universe engine: explore the solar system, Milky Way, galaxies and deep-sky objects in real time with time acceleration and object search. WebGL, Three.js.

I made this site using R3F (https://github.com/pmndrs/react-three-fiber), a React renderer for 3JS (https://threejs.org/). The celestial bodies are Three.JS meshes. I used loaders (namely 'useLoader' from R3F and 'GLTFLoader' from 3JS) to import 3D models, such as International Space Station. More on loading models in R3F: https://docs.pmnd.rs/react-three-fiber/tutorials/loading-mod... I've future plans for this side project. It would be great to hear from the HN community before diving into them. Enjoy! P.S: Getting an empty…

  • With social media and now AI, its important to keep the indie web alive. There are many people who write frequently. Blogosphere tries to highlight them by fetching the recent posts from personal blogs across many categories. There are two versions: Minimal (HN-inspired, fast, static): https://text.blogosphere.app/ Non-minimal: https://blogosphere.app/ If you don't find your blog (or your favorite ones), please add them. I will review and approve it.
