Backgroundifier, a Mac app that converts art into desktop backgrounds

In plain words

Backgroundifier is a Mac app that converts irregularly-sized images into properly formatted desktop backgrounds. Users can transform their personal image collections into wallpapers without manual resizing. The app is mostly open source, with code available on Github, and the developer welcomes bug reports and questions via email.
