Banger–A Firefox extension to extend DDG's bangs

Hello HN! I made this Firefox extension to extend upon DuckDuckGo's idea of bangs (check https://duckduckgo.com/bangs if you aren't familiar with them) and also allow the use of any search engine with them. I found DuckDuckGo's bangs fascinating, but was disappointed by how little search engines inherit that feature. And on top of it, DuckDuckGo has the "!" bang that jumps to the first search result but other search engines offering bangs like Brave Search, searx, You.com don't seem to have that. I also thought that the "!" bang could be extended with the ability to jump to…

    Flashbang – DuckDuckGo bangs resolved locally with a Service WorkerJul 2026 · flashbang-dyr.pages.dev · ▲19

I like to use DuckDuckGo-style bangs and snaps, they are fast and efficient shortcuts. However, neither Kagi nor DuckDuckGo resolves them as quickly as I would like and subjectively Google has better search results than DuckDuckGo. After trying a few local alternatives eg. unduck, unduckified, I wasn't satisfied, the ones I tried briefly loaded a page before redirecting causing visible page flickering, still took time to resolve the actual redirect and lacked advanced features (address-bar autocomplete). Flashbang avoids that by handling the redirect in a Service Worker, before the browser…

    Customizable DuckDuckGo Search Bangs Service2019 · ▲7

I love DDG !bangs so much, that I kept finding myself in need of custom search !bangs... So I built them! I absolutely love DDG's search !bangs! ... even more than their stance on privacy. If you've ever found yourself wishing for a custom search !bang you're in the same boat as me :) Sure, sometimes submitting a public !bang is the way to go... But not always. Maybe you want to override the default !weather or you want a custom !bang for an internal tool used by your employer. You can create your custom search !bangs at https://interrobang.online

This works suprisingly well. Just give it instructions like "make it winter" or "remove the cars" and the photo is altered. Here are some examples of transformations it can make: Golden gate bridge: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/brycedrennan/imaginAIry/ma... Girl with a pearl earring: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/brycedrennan/imaginAIry/ma... I integrated this new InstructPix2Pix model into imaginAIry (python library) so it's easy to use for python developers.

  • I've built a C# IDE, Runtime, and AppStore inside Excel▲670

The project is called QueryStorm. It uses Roslyn to offer C# (and VB.NET) support in Excel, as an alternative to VBA. I've posted about it before, but a lot has changed since then so figured I'd share an update. The current version includes a host of new features, namely a C# debugger, support for NuGet packages, and the ability to publish Excel extensions to an "AppStore" (which is essentially a NuGet repository). The AppStore can be used by anyone with the (free) runtime component. Another great addition is the community license, which is a free license for individuals and small companies…

Hey HN! Some more info: I’m an NHS doctor and the founder of Pi-A (https://www.pi-a.io) which developed Lungy (https://www.lungy.app). Lungy is an app (iOS only for now) that responds to breathing in real-time and was designed to make breathing exercises more engaging and beneficial to do. It hopefully has many aspects of interest to the HN community – real-time fluid, cloth and soft body sims running on the phone’s GPU. My background is as a junior surgical trainee and I started building Lungy in 2020 during the first COVID lockdown in London. During COVID, there were…
