Beating OpenAI's structured outputs on cost, accuracy and speed

What it does
We leveraged a novel technique, schema-aligned parsing, to achieve SOTA on BFCL with every LLM. Using BAML , we achieved state-of-the-art results for every model in the Berkeley function-calling benchmark (BFCL) — nearly solving it 1 . BAML is more accurate and cheaper for function calling than any native function calling API. It's easily 2-4x faster than OpenAI's FC-strict API. BAML's technique is model-agnostic and works with any model without modification (even open-source ones). gpt-3.5-turbo , gpt-4o-mini , and claude-haiku with BAML work almost as well as gpt4o with structured output (less than 2%) We used our prompting DSL (BAML) to achieve this[2], without using JSON-mode or any…from boundaryml.com

Llama 3.2 Interpretability with Sparse Autoencoders2024 · github.com · ▲579I spent a lot of time and money on this rather big side project of mine that attempts to replicate the mechanistic interpretability research on proprietary LLMs that was quite popular this year and produced great research papers by Anthropic [1], OpenAI [2] and Deepmind [3]. I am quite proud of this project and since I consider myself the target audience for HackerNews did I think that maybe some of you would appreciate this open research replication as well. Happy to answer any questions or face any feedback. Cheers [1]…

Hi HN! My latest side project is knowledge graph that maps the French culinary network using data extracted from restaurant reviews from LeFooding.com. The project uses LLMs to extract structured information from unstructured text. Some technical aspects you may be interested in: - Used structured generation to reliably parse unstructured text into a consistent schema - Tested multiple models (Mistral-7B-v0.3, Llama3.2-3B, gpt4o-mini) for information extraction - Created an interactive visualization using gephi-lite and Retina (WebGL) - Built (with Claude) a simple Flask web app to clean and…
Structured output from LLMs without reprompting2023 · automorphic.ai · ▲174Built a tool for transforming unstructured data into structured outputs using language models (with 100% adherence). If you're facing problems getting GPT to adhere to a schema (JSON, XML, etc.) or regex, need to bulk process some unstructured data, or generate synthetic data, check it out. We run our own tuned model (you can self-host if you want), so, we're able to have incredibly fine grained control over text generation. Hey there HN! We’re Joe and Stopa, and today we’re open sourcing InstantDB, a client-side database that makes it easy to build real-time and collaborative apps like Notion and Figma. Building modern apps these days involves a lot of schleps. For a basic CRUD app you need to spin up servers, wire up endpoints, integrate auth, add permissions, and then marshal data from the backend to the frontend and back again. If you want to deliver a buttery smooth user experience, you’ll need to add optimistic updates and rollbacks. We do these steps over and over for every feature we build, which can…
