Tools can be thought of as any executable code that allows LLMs to interact with the outside world (via ReAct and Toolformer techniques): email, docs, spreadsheets, Jira tickets, web pages/search, etc. The best part about tools is that they can be executed in isolated environments, significantly reducing potential security risks associated with running LLM-generated code and API calls. The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano.
