CarBluff.com

Is that car listing a scam? Scan it in 10 seconds!

What it does

CarBluff scans a used-car listing from Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or anywhere else and returns a 0-100 trust score in seconds, checking 20+ known scam patterns: deposit-before-viewing, Zelle/wire/gift-card demands, shipping and escrow stories, below-market pricing, stolen photos, and more. On Facebook (which hides listings) you just screenshot the ad and your chat with the seller and it reads them on your device. First scan is free, no account needed.

Paste a used-car listing link and get a 0-100 trust score in seconds. 20+ scam checks: phishing links, payment red flags, below-market pricing. Free forever, no account.

We check for scam warning signs and explain it in plain English. Works on Facebook Marketplace, where links cannot be read. This is our most accurate check. Read on your device. Nothing is uploaded to us. Include the chat: that is where deposit requests and shipping stories show up. You can also drag an image into this box, or copy a screenshot and press Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac) to paste it here. We couldn't open that listing automatically (Facebook keeps some listings behind a login). No problem, just open the ad, copy the title and description, and paste them here. And if you've messaged the seller, paste those messages too. That's where most scams actually show up. Works with Craigslist,…from carbluff.com

Hey HN! A few years ago my brother in-law was looking to purchase his first car. He was struggling to know what to look for when going to car dealerships and felt quite overwhelmed with the financial and practical decisions required. Not that I have any particular expertise with cars or the engineering involved, but through my own experiences purchasing cars and owning them I gave him some advice and "tips". As anyone would. Things only morphed from there, I spent the next couple of years in my spare time learning to code, researching, and developing CarCheck. It's been a journey! Hindsight…

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
