CH16 is a free maritime safety app built with rescue coordinators and mariners. At sea, knowing who to call and how to do it can save a life. CH16 solves that. What it does: - 350+ MRCC and JRCC contacts worldwide - Interactive SRR map with real-time zone detection - MAYDAY and PAN PAN generator — IMO/GMDSS compliant, with audio - Man Overboard mode with GPS tracking and DMD bearing - Passage Plan: declare your route, auto-notify rescue centres in their language Android coming this month.

A couple of months ago, I built this app to help identify people stuck under rubble. First responders have awesome tools. But in tough situations, even common folks need to help. After what happened in Myanmar, we need something like this that works properly. It has only been tested in controlled environments. It can also be improved; I know BLE is not _that_ effective under rubble. If you have any feedback or can contribute, don't hold back.

Hey HN. I'm a high schooler in Fremont, CA. Tuesday morning I got a county-wide AC Alert text telling everyone in Alameda County to prepare a go-bag for an East Bay Hills Red Flag Warning that starts tonight at 11 PM. The text went to ~half a million phones. The actual NWS warning polygon only covers East Bay Hills (NWS zone CAZ515). Most people who got the text don't need a go-bag tonight.
