What it does
This extension helps you make descriptive commit messages with no hassle. It uses ChatGPT 3.5 turbo (10x cheaper than other models) to suggest you a fitting text based on what changes you've staged. So you can play with it and find a perfect commit or edit it.

Build the habit of writing meaningful commit messagesNov 2025 · github.com · ▲110Too often I find myself being lazy with commit messages. But I don't want AI to write them for me... only i truly know why i wrote the code i did. So why don't i get AI to help me get that into words from my head? That's what i built: smartcommit asks you questions about your changes, then helps you articulate what you already know into a proper commit message. Captures the what, how, and why. Built this after repeatedly being confused 6 months in a project as to why i made the change i had made... Would love feedback!

Built a free VS Code extension to help share code updates2024 · marketplace.visualstudio.com · ▲23Hi HN, I built a free, and completely open source, visual studio code extension, which generates tweets based on commits you select. While I was working on webtilities.com, an idea came to me: wouldn't it be cool that I could market this thing inside my editor. Ah, i'm truly lazy. Well, I spent a week building this thing that I bet no one will need because: * "This wont work. My commit messages are terrible" * "This is stupid, I can just use ChatGPT/Gemini/[Insert Chat Platform] directly" * "This is stupid, I get BILLED for using openai tokens" ... And the list goes on. But, I…
Bindly2016 · bind.ly · ▲76Hi HN, I’m a product designer by background, not a traditional software engineer. Over the last year, tools like Claude and ChatGPT completely changed how I work. I started with small internal tools, and now I’m “vibe coding” multiple highly personalized apps. As I iterated between Claude Code (implementation) and ChatGPT (ideation / thinking), I kept running into the same problem. To think clearly, I had to repeatedly re-explain: - what the code currently does, - what changed recently, - and why certain decisions were made. That re-summarization step became a real bottleneck. So I…

I'm a big fan of the BBC podcast In Our Time -- and (like most people) I've been playing with the OpenAI APIs. In Our Time has almost 1,000 episodes on everything from Cleopatra to the evolution of teeth to plasma physics, all still available, so it's my starting point to learn about most topics. But it's not well organised. So here are the episodes sorted by library code. It's fun to explore. Web scraping is usually pretty tedious, but I found that I could send the minimised HTML to GPT-3 and get (almost) perfect JSON back: the prompt includes the Typescript definition. At the same time I…
