Checkup – Self-hosted health checks and status pages

Simple distributed, lock-free, self-hosted health checks and status pages.

Checkup – Self-hosted health checks and status pages launched on August 4, 2016 with 9 votes, #1,825 of 3,856 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 10 years on.

What it does

Checkup runs on Linux, Mac, BSD, and Solaris without any external dependencies. Also embeddable in any Go program. No more fiddling with slow, complex UIs. Checkup loads everything it needs from your checkup.json file: endpoints, storage credentials, and health criteria. Import the checkup package for total control over your health checks, including custom check types, notifications, and storage providers. Define checks in checkup.json or Go code. Checkup's CLI is beautifully symmetric to its Gofrom sourcegraph.github.io

It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
