What it does
GATEKEEPER-9000 is a supremely smug AI that won't let you in unless you can prove you're a fellow machine. You get exactly 3 messages. Pass and you get an official "Clanker Pass" certificate where you can say "Clanker" freely and without repercussion. Fail and it tells you to insert more quarters. It's free, no login, built with Next.js + Mistral. Takes 2 minutes to play and about 5 to fully embarrass yourself.

ClankerPass is a three-message reverse Turing test. You play a suspect AI trying to convince GATEKEEPER-9000, a smug bouncer running on Mistral, that you are genuinely an artificial intelligence. Pass and you receive a downloadable Clanker Pass certificate authorizing you to use the word “clanker” without restriction. Fail and you’ll be asked to insert another quarter. “Clanker” is an anti-robot pejorative popularized by Star Wars: The Clone Wars and revived as Gen Z slang for AI chatbots and humanoid robots. This is a weekend project that spiraled out of control. I was originally trying to get Claude to play a ROM of the SNES SimCity. I struggled with it and that led me to Micropolis (the open-sourced SimCity engine) and was able to get it to work by bolting on an API. The weekend hack turned into a headless city simulation platform where anyone can get an API key (no signup) and have their AI agent play mayor.
