CMS-like editing for Markdown with contenteditable and 100 lines of JS

A small Astro integration for editing rendered Markdown and saving changes back to the source file

CMS-like editing for Markdown with contenteditable and 100 lines of JS launched on July 13, 2025 with 5 votes and more than 75% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 1 year on.

What it does

I use Markdown for most of my static sites. Editing a post still means switching between the browser preview and a text editor. The tools I found were too complex or required a different stack. I wanted something small that worked with my existing Astro site. So I built inlineCMS , a development-only Astro integration built around contenteditable . Your browser doesn't support HTML video. Here is a link to the video instead. This is not a production CMS. It only runs during development, which is exactly what I need. Setup stays small, and editing no longer breaks myfrom mattismegevand.com

Inspired by the design and UI/UX of apps like Notion, and utility of open-source apps like StackEdit, I decided to create a minimalistic, local-only WYSIWYG Markdown editor. Some features worth highlighting: - Monaco editor and Prettier integration for code snippets - Tables (apparently the holy grail of WYSIWYG editing) - Embeds (for CodePen, CodeSandbox and YouTube, most useful for HTML or JSON exports) - Accepts Markdown paste-in, and "exports"/generates HTML, Markdown and JSON outputs - Collaboration (with real-time awareness and initial commenting system, available only when…

Use your familiar Markdown editor to create and publish web pages2023 · amarkdown.com · ▲62

I'm excited to introduce my own developed Markdown editor to everyone. It's built on the Monaco editor and designed specifically for developers. This editor integrates various features such as document management, resource management, and MDX extensions. You can embed images, audio, video, and even use plugins like drawing tools, calendars, and cards to showcase your creativity. What's even more thrilling is that it allows users to customize PostgreSQL table structures, insert and display data in Markdown documents, and even collect form submissions. My original intention in design was to…

  • I made a CMS for Astro content collections2023 · getdarkmatter.dev · ▲6

I like writing content in Markdown and I enjoy Astro very much. When I tried out Astro's content collections feature, I couldn't stop wondering how would a nice packaging look for it, which would smooth out the rough edges around Markdown in static websites. So I made the app that I can enjoy when writing posts on my Astro-powered blog. It's been saving me a ton of time already. I don't need to: 1. Edit in iA writer then paste into VS Code. 2. Google YAML date format. 3. Generate Unix timestamps to prefix new files with. 4. Copy paste images and write down their URLs manually. 5. Peek at…

  • Hey HN! Introducing Trickle Magic Canvas: the world’s first Agentic Canvas, where you can visually co-create apps and websites with AI, from idea to production. Why is a canvas better? Most AI tools today rely on linear chats or text prompts. We believe that limits creativity and clarity. Canvas changes the game. 1. Every version & page at a glance. Each page and sub-page lives on a timeline. You can quickly browse, edit, and preview progress like a living, visual document — no more digging through chat logs or scattered states. 2. The canvas is the context. Unlike linear chats, you can…

  • Today marks ten years, 3653 consecutive days, of running at least one mile every day under the USRSA rules [1]. To celebrate, I built an interactive dashboard that turns a decade of GPX files into charts you can explore. Running has truly changed my life: I've made lifelong friends, explored beautiful places, and more importantly invested into my own health and fitness, which I'm starting to see the positive benefits as I get older. The stack is pretty simple: a NextJS app, with a Postgres database to keep all my running data, and all the stats are pre-computed and cached in Redis, so I…

  • Made this website as an exercise in vibe-coding and GCP. It was posted about a few times around the internet, on sites like Morning Brew (https://www.morningbrew.com/issues/business-buzzkill), MetaFilter (https://www.metafilter.com/209703/Draw-A-Fish), boingboing.net, etc. I think it's cute! I built a basic CNN trained against penises and swastikas, and then anything that doesn't hit the 63% confidence score gets sent to a mod queue, a vibe-coded fish-tinder…

  • Hi HN - I made a site that takes a UK postcode, grabs the local MP's information and generates an AI mockup of what their ID might look like. It's a small, silly protest at the stupidity of the Online Safety Act that just came into force. edit - My open AI credits got hugged to death, please use a known postcode (like one from Kier Starmer's constituency, WC2B6NH) in the meantime.
