Color Orbs (Generative Art)

Hi all, This is a generative art project I worked on over the past year or so consisting of about 100 little artworks generated using P5.js. I have an overview and technical write up here: https://dannyking.uk/artwork/colororbs You can play with my interactive demo and make your own here: https://dannyking.uk/artwork/colororbs/designer And the gallery is here: https://dannyking.uk/artwork/colororbs/gallery This project came about after reading a HN post about a year ago…

In plain words

Color Orbs is a generative art project consisting of approximately 100 artworks created with P5.js. The project allows users to view a gallery of completed pieces, explore technical documentation, and create their own variations through an interactive designer tool. It is for anyone interested in generative art and algorithmic design, offering both finished work to view and the ability to experiment with custom creations.

From the sources

Color Orbs is a generative art project exploring color and texture in little animated orbs. Out of tens of thousands of Color Orbs that I've made, this is one of my favorites: This page walks through some of my other favorite works from the gallery and walks you through how they were made. If you'd like to explore further you can browse the full gallery or make your own using my orb designer in your browser. Click on any orb to watch its animation and click its tune button to see and edit its DNA. Randomness plays a huge part in the result though, especially in its shape. Here's another of my favorites that has a very different shape to the others: The joy in this project comes from finding…from dannyking.uk

I'm enthralled with using pen plotters to make generative art. Last August at SIGGRAPH, I built an interactive experience for others to see how code can be used to make visual art. The linked blog post is my trials and tribulations of linking a MIDI controller to one of these algorithms and sending its output to a plotter, so that people may witness the end-to-end experience.

I built PaletteInspiration.com, a browsable archive of color palettes pulled from artworks by 3,000+ master painters (Monet, Vermeer, Raphael, Van Gogh). Why I built it: every color palette generator I tried converged on the same five muted pastels. Painters spent centuries figuring out color and we mostly ignore that body of work when picking colors for digital design. Please share your feedback on the Color Harmony Explorer - drag the wheel to any color and it shows which hues master painters historically paired with it (not only standard complementary, analogous, triadic, etc.) It is…

    A little side project, a watercolor art generator2022 · brushify.art · ▲224

Hi HN - this is a little side project I threw together. Some implementation details: image processing is all done with headless GIMP (running inside a Docker container) through its built-in Python API. It's _very_ slow (about 50 seconds/image), and currently it processes exactly one image at a time. The website is built with NextJS; payments are processed by Stripe. I've had the best results with pictures of houses, although certain photos of people or nature can look neat, too. (For example: https://brushify.art/s/ruYmQWk, original photo from…
