In plain words

Megacomet is a Comet server designed for handling high-volume real-time messaging. It efficiently manages queued messages while maintaining low resource consumption, using approximately 5% CPU and 65MB RAM when processing 1,000 messages per second on a small cloud instance. The tool is intended for developers building applications that require scalable push notification or live data streaming capabilities.

From the sources

TL;DR: Comet server with 1 million queued messages, uses ~5% cpu at 1000msgs/sec and 65m RAM, on the smallest EC2 instance. I've just started the testing of Megacomet on a 64-bit Amazon EC2 micro instance. My first test is to get it running, and see how it goes when queuing up messages (mainly this is because I haven't yet written a test harness to pull the messages off the queue!). I'm very pleased with the results, so here's the summary: I'm really happy with that, both from the perspective of memory usage, and CPU usage. Keep in mind i plan to implement expiry of messages in the queue, so that in reality you'd never get a queue that large, but it's good to know that it'll queue up 1m…from splinter.com.au

  • Warp, a Rust-based terminal2022 · warp.dev · ▲946

    Hi HN community, I’m Zach, founder and CEO of Warp, and am excited to show you Warp, a fast Rust-based terminal that’s easy to use and built for teams. As of today, Warp is in public beta and any Mac user can download it. It works with bash, zsh, and fish. The terminal’s teletype-like interface has made it hard for the CLI to thrive. After 20 years of programming, I still find it hard to copy a command’s output; I always forget how to use `tar`; and I always have to relearn how to move my cursor. To fix fundamental accessibility issues, I believe we need to start innovating on the terminal,…

    Hey hacker news, We’re the cofounders at Psychic.dev (http://psychic.dev) where we help companies connect LLMs to private data. With the launch of Llama 2, we think it’s finally viable to self-host an internal application that’s on-par with ChatGPT, so we did exactly that and made it an open source project. We also included a vector DB and API server so you can upload files and connect Llama 2 to your own data. The RAG in RAGstack stands for Retrieval Augmented Generation, a technique where the capabilities of a large language model (LLM) are augmented by retrieving information…

  • Iceoryx2 – Fast IPC Library for Rust, C++, and C2024 · ekxide.io · ▲122

    Hello everyone, Today we released iceoryx2 v0.4! iceoryx2 is a service-based inter-process communication (IPC) library designed to make communication between processes as fast as possible - like Unix domain sockets or message queues, but orders of magnitude faster and easier to use. It also comes with advanced features such as circular buffers, history, event notifications, publish-subscribe messaging, and a decentralized architecture with no need for a broker. For example, if you're working in robotics and need to process frames from a camera across multiple processes, iceoryx2 makes it…

    Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
