CompressDude

Compress images without crushing their quality

What it does

CompressDude is a clean, friendly image compression tool that makes files smaller without complicating your workflow. Everything is processed directly in your browser—your images are never uploaded to a server, keeping them completely private. Add your images, compress them in seconds, and download optimized files through a simple, clutter-free interface.

Free online image compressor for JPEG, PNG, WebP and AVIF. Shrink file size by up to 90% with barely any quality loss — runs entirely in your browser, nothing is ever uploaded to a server.

Drop in JPEGs, PNGs or WebPs. Pick a quality or a target size, and CompressDude does its best to keep every pixel that matters. These Terms govern your use of CompressDude, available at compressdude.com ("the Service"). CompressDude is a free tool for compressing and optimising images directly in your browser. No account or payment is required. Images are processed locally on your device. They are not uploaded to our servers, viewed by us or stored by us. You are responsible for downloading and safely storing the resulting files. You may only process images that you own or are legally permitted to use. You retain all rights to your images. We do not obtain ownership of or a licence to use…from compressdude.com

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
