Cook for Mom

What it does

Site: https://cookformom.com Source: https://github.com/anulman/cook-for-mom Creator here . I've been working on a free, six-week, online cooking class to help beginner and novice chefs build skills, toward the goal of preparing a 3-course gourmet meal guaranteed to impress mom for Mother's Day. I appreciate that landing pages are generally frowned upon as Show HNs; if you feel compelled to downvote, I understand. While I'm certainly hoping to recruit some cooks among us, I wanted to share this project because I want your feedback on this as a conversion tool, and I hope to share back any ideas or implementations you find interesting. Some "neat stuff" you might appreciate: - Though this is an Ember.js app, it loads _real_ quick due to a prebuilt index.html deployed (with all relevant assets) to Firebase CDN [1] - There are nudges and triggers all over the place. An exit intent nudge gets registered as soon as you scroll past "Menu". Try hovering over the nav bar before and after. This only works once, because we don't want to annoy the user. [2] - I set a consistent fingerprint across all analytics tools, using a lib espoused by adtech friends [3] - If on Chrome, the parallax is responsive to resizes, supports variable height, _and_ is hecka performant—even in light of all of the listeners + analytics code. [4] - The source for the welcome email is public too; it is generated with HEML [5] Thanks HN! [1] ember-cli-build.js#L13-L18 [2] app/pods/index/nav-bar/component.js#L35-L38 [3] app/metrics-adapters/segment.js#L23-L40 [4] app/pods/components/parallax-container/fluid/component.js#L24-L39; I'm hoping to extend this to Safari / Firefox too and have a halfway-working impl (they rely on odd DOM hacks and compute the transform differently); please message if you can help! [5] heml/welcome.heml; I plan to extend this into compiler tooling to better separate concerns & reuse components, in order to generate the weeks' content

I created https://foundermeals.com as a weekend project, and as part of an internal competition we do at http://www.freshform.com I love the concept, and I'll be ecstatic if the project is funded and can move forward. But I'm curious if I'm focusing too much on my own insane hunt to find the simplest way to cook, or if that appeals to others. Most people I've told about this respond with, "You're kinda analytical, huh?" or "You think people would pay for that?" or even "...." The thing is, I'm not trying to sell recipes, I'm trying to sell convenience, and I'm not sure I've communicated that…

I am happy to announce the updated release of my web app, 7courses. http://7courses.com/ 7courses makes it ridiculously easy to jot down and manage your collection of recipes. As someone who cooks, I often find recipes online or in cookbooks, but have no way to organize them. I have been looking for a digital "recipe box". After plenty of searching I just made my own. 7courses was built around the idea that you should be able to choose how you want to organize your recipes, and doing so should be easy and quick. The UI is responsive and intuitive, with a no frills design. Just jump right in…
- IMI made a website to clean up recipe websitesApr 2026 · tangled.org · ▲7
Hi hn! It has always annoyed me that recipe websites are so cluttered and have so much (in my opinion) useless fluff, so I made a little website to solve that problem! One good thing about SEO for once is that Google has pretty much forced the internet to adopt JSON-LD for recipes so many recipes are directly extractable and for others I have several fall back parsers including an indieweb parser :) If you do find a website that is broken feel free to click the flag button or share it as I would love to fix any edge cases

http://cheergram.com Hey there everyone. I have been reading HN a bit here sans there but haven't ever submitted/commented before. (I am a stay at home mom) Anyway I had this idea a while back and had my husband help me build it. I tried to do most of the designs, though some are stock vectors. Anyway I'd love your feedback on anything that will help this business grow. Thanks so much.
