Crash course in Qt for C++ developers – a blog post series
Hi guys, Two days ago I published the fourth post in the series and thought it would now be a good time to look for additional feedback here on Hacker News. The aim of the series (as mentioned in the first post) is to inspire more people to start using Qt. My ambition is to answer the following questions "what is the gist of Qt?"; "what is the 20% that you need to know to develop 80% of the application?"; "what are the perhaps unknown unknowns?". In other words, I'm just covering basics: enough to understand the concepts and where to find additional information should you need it. Do you…

Here is the link to the first post: https://www.cleanqt.io/blog/crash-course-in-qt-for-c%2B%2B-d... I appreciate your time and would be very happy if you had any feedback.

Hi! I am doing a learning project, attempting to build an imperative language (and interpreter). The end product will be useless for others, I just want to learn and better understand how to build imperative languages. :) If someone else shares this interest and want to give some good hints on good resources I would be grateful. Currently I am looking at an awesome text by Bob Nystrom. All suggestions and tips on resources are most welcome. I am very much a beginner in this, but I find this topic very fascinating. Mail me or post links here! Cheers! You can try a beta version Online at…

First tutorial to date. Writing your first C program, includes a link at the bottom with a detailed look at printf() as optional reading. I would love some feedback, as I intend writing up a lot of dev articles for people to learn from : www.xanthu.com/first-c-program

Earlier this year, I took a month to reexamine my coding habits and rethink some past design choices. I hope to rewrite and improve my FOSS libraries this year, and I needed answers to a few questions first. Perhaps some of these questions will resonate with others in the community, too. - Are coroutines viable for high-performance work? - Should I use SIMD intrinsics for clarity or drop to assembly for easier library distribution? - Has hardware caught up with vectorized scatter/gather in AVX-512 & SVE? - How do secure enclaves & pointer tagging differ on Intel, Arm, & AMD? - What's…

Since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020 I have been recording my university lectures for all of my courses and posting them online for free for anyone to watch. You can click the link for a YouTube playlist, or click the Google Spreadsheet for a breakdown of all the lectures of that course offering. Here is my standard response for those asking for the assignment files, which I unfortunately do not provide: https://www.cs.mun.ca/~dchurchill/teaching/youtube.txt

Hi HN, I built Eigendrum, a web tool that solves the 2D wave equation for arbitrary shapes so you can hear what they sound like as drums. How it works: * Solves -∇²u = λu using finite element analysis (Kφ = λMφ) on a triangle mesh. * Validated to <0.1% error against closed-form solutions for circles (Bessel zeros) and rectangles. * Sound model factors in strike location, Rayleigh damping, and mallet width. * Includes Kac drums I & II to demonstrate identical sound spectra from different geometries. * No frameworks, build steps, or dependencies. Repo and tests:…
