Creavi Macropad – Built a wireless macropad with a display
Hey HN, We built a wireless, low-profile macropad with a display called the Creavi Macropad. It lasts at least 1 month on a single charge. We also put together a browser-based tool that lets you update macros in real time and even push OTA updates over BLE. Since we're software engineers by day, we had to figure out the hardware, mechanics, and industrial design as we went (and somehow make it all work together). This post covers the build process, and the final result. Hope you enjoy!

In plain words
The Creavi Macropad is a wireless, low-profile keyboard accessory with an integrated display designed for customizing keyboard shortcuts and macros. It operates wirelessly with a battery lasting at least one month per charge. Users can configure macros through a browser-based tool that updates the device in real time and supports over-the-air updates via Bluetooth. The macropad is built by software engineers who self-taught hardware design and mechanical engineering to create the product.

Hey HN! A few years ago someone kept trying to steal my motorcycle, so I decided to make a small camera with really long battery life to catch them. The hardware/software is totally open source, but the companion app only supports macOS currently. (I'm a big fan of native apps, and didn't want to block releasing on Linux/Windows support.) I wrote some blog posts about the process: PCB design: https://toaster.llc/blog/pcb Enclosure design: https://toaster.llc/blog/enclosure Image pipeline:…
