I kept opening Reddit to relax and closing it feeling worse. Every scroll was another disaster, conflict, or piece of outrage bait. So I built Dawnly. It pulls from Reddit's popular and news feeds, scores every post for positivity, then filters. What's left is the good stuff — science breakthroughs, heartwarming moments, people doing remarkable things. Two feeds. Save posts. Share with one tap. No account needed. Built this solo as my first iOS app. Would love your honest feedback.

I got fed up with the news reader apps out there so I decided to make my own. Its a simple concept where it tracks all your favorite news sources for new posts and the social shares it received. Then it ranks it HN/Reddit style using social shares as upvotes. It's not meant to be alternative to HN, just a focused way to track your favorite sources. I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
