I’ve been working on a puzzle game for a few years as a side project. The game is based on a small region of tiles in a grid that is mirrored, modified, and mirrored again. It’s based on a novel phenomenon I noticed where, once these mutations happen a few times, the original region can be hard to recognize. You have a feeling there are symmetries in the image, but they are just out of grasp. Going further, if only part of the region is visible, such as mirroring off the edge of the board, it adds to the feeling and it becomes a satisfying puzzle to solve. The idea for this pixel art puzzle game came from playing Triominos, and wondering what would happen if you replaced numbers with colors. A few mutations later, and it became a mobile game where you click a piece to turn it in place, to recreate pixel art. I built the basic idea in just over an hour on Twitch. Dev-wise, I used a homebrew Typescript game engine I created, called Booyah (https://github.com/play-curious/booyah). The graphics are all rendered using the awesome library PixiJS. Hi everyone, I built PyXL — a hardware processor that executes a custom assembly generated from Python programs, without using a traditional interpreter or virtual machine. It compiles Python -> CPython Bytecode -> Instruction set designed for direct hardware execution. I’m sharing an early benchmark: a GPIO test where PyXL achieves a 480ns round-trip toggle — compared to 14-25 micro seconds on a MicroPython Pyboard - even though PyXL runs at a lower clock (100MHz vs. 168MHz).
