In plain words

PowerKey is a macOS utility that remaps the power key on MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models to perform custom functions instead of shutting down the computer. Users can reassign the power key to actions of their choice while retaining the ability to force shutdown by holding it down or access the system menu via Fn + Power. The app is designed for MacBook owners who want to repurpose their power button for more frequent tasks, particularly useful on newer models where the eject key has been replaced.

From the sources

Use PowerKey to remap your Macbook Pro or Macbook Air's power key to a useful function. Your computer will still shut down if you hold the power key. Be careful! If you have an idea for a replacement key that should be included, file a github issue . You can still prompt the system [Restart | Sleep | Cancel | Shut Down] pop-up by pressing Fn + Power . This app does not change the power key's function when modifier keys are held. Right! Eject has been replaced by Power on the newer Macbook Pro and Macbook Air models. Your laptop's Power button will actually work with this app, but it's up to you if that's desireable. If you have any problems or suggestions, contact me via github . This page…from pkamb.github.io
