Disco

Deploy Any Web App, Pay Less, Own It All.

Disco launched on April 8, 2025 with 7 votes. The site was still online in September 2026, 1 year on.

What it does

Disco is a full featured Open Source web deployment platform that lets you host 10+ web apps for the price of one.

Disco is a self-hosted Heroku alternative for teams with many services and environments. Git push deploys, zero-downtime releases, amatic SSL, on your own servers at hardware cost.

Disco is the self-hosted Open Source Heroku alternative: git push deploys, zero-downtime releases, automatic SSL, on your own servers at hardware cost. Keep the PaaS experience (deployments, SSL, logs, scaling) but run it on infrastructure you own. No vendor markup. No lock-in. Teams self-hosting or outgrowing managed PaaS platforms who need predictable costs and control. Managed PaaS markups spike with every extra service and environment. Disco replaces that markup with plain hardware cost. If you’re already paying ≥$1k/mo, odds are you can cut 70–95%. Conservative estimate using commodity VPS pricing. Real numbers depend on redundancy, region, and workload. Heroku-style DX on…from disco.cloud

Hey HN, for the past 1.5 years my cofounder Antoine and I have been building Disco, an Open Source deployment platform that lets you host multiple web apps on a single server: https://disco.cloud/ After getting tired of high per-project pricing on platforms like Heroku and Render, and frustrated with Kubernetes' complexity, we created a platform with all the polish and convenience of commercial solutions, but as an Open Source project you can run anywhere. Disco gives you a streamlined experience (ie a clean CLI and web UI) with the freedom and economics of self-hosting. Key…

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

  • Hi everyone, I built PyXL — a hardware processor that executes a custom assembly generated from Python programs, without using a traditional interpreter or virtual machine. It compiles Python -> CPython Bytecode -> Instruction set designed for direct hardware execution. I’m sharing an early benchmark: a GPIO test where PyXL achieves a 480ns round-trip toggle — compared to 14-25 micro seconds on a MicroPython Pyboard - even though PyXL runs at a lower clock (100MHz vs. 168MHz). The design is stack-based, fully pipelined, and preserves Python's dynamic typing without static type restrictions.…
