Since last time i posted about dotenv-diff a few things has improved - “did you mean” type suggestions - comment warnings flag (every key in your .env.example must have a #comment above or next to the key) -now whenever you run dotenv-diff it will warn you about difference in you example file if its run against your .env file -catch secret keys that you definitely dont want in your example file -smaller bug fixes

In plain words
Dotenv-Diff is a tool available on GitHub that helps manage environment variable files. It's designed for developers who work with .env configuration files and need to track changes between different versions. The software includes several new features in its latest v3.0.0 release, making it useful for teams collaborating on projects with environment-specific settings.

Scan your codebase to detect every environment variable reference. It helps you catch missing, unused, duplicated, and misused variables early, before they cause runtime errors. First-class support for SvelteKit and Next.js. Also works well in modern JavaScript/TypeScript projects and frameworks like Node.js, Nuxt, and Vue — or any other setup where you want reliableenv file comparison.

Dotenv, if it is a Unix utility2024 · github.com · ▲225I like the idea of using dotenv files, but I dislike having to use different language-specific libraries to read them. To solve this, I created a small utility that lets you prefix any command with "dotenv" to load the ".env" file. This is how I imagine dotenv would work if it had started as a UNIX utility rather than a Node.js library.

Dotenv Mask Editor: No more embarrassing screen leaks of your .envJan 2026 · marketplace.visualstudio.com · ▲28Hi HN, I built this because I often work in coworking spaces or do screen sharing, and I've always had this fear of accidentally flashing my .env file with production secrets to the whole room (or recording). It’s a simple VS Code extension that opens .env files in a custom grid editor. It automatically masks any value longer than 6 characters so I can safely open the file to check keys without exposing the actual secrets. It runs 100% locally with zero dependencies (I know how sensitive these files are). It just reads the file, renders the grid, and saves it back as standard text. It's open…

Envelope – A modern environment variable cli tool2024 · github.com · ▲103Hey HN! I've built this cli tool to manage env variables of a project, but mostly for fun and to try out Rust and the clap crate. I had this idea when I made a big mistake and broke some production stuff because I had a very messy .env file laying around in my project. I was implementing new features for one of my projects and in my .env file I had the test database url commented out and the production one was not. Long story short, I applied migrations to the production database instead of my local test one and broke a lot of production APIs :') I wanted a tool that could easily help me…
Sendenv, a CLI tool to share environment variables2024 · github.com · ▲83My weekend project sendenv is a CLI tool that lets you share environment variables securely with someone else. It is built on top of magic-wormhole which allows for safe, account-free data transfer. When you send variables using sendenv, it creates a one-time code. You give this code to the person who needs the variables. They use the code in their shell to load the variables. This is handy for quickly setting up new team members or copying local environment variables to another system. Its currently in alpha obviously, but the core functionality works (I have tested sending vaults from a…

Talanoa▲341Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

I might be the only SRE on Earth with his own bowling center. It's a more in-depth gig than you'd think. My family and I bought an abandoned 8-lane bowling center in the rural mid-west. In our small town there weren't many recreation options for families. You've heard of a food desert? This is an R&R desert. It had been abandoned for a good reason. The roof leaks, the electrical system was constantly surging, and my 70-year-old bowling equipment (still) doesn't work perfectly. The system that keeps your score is particularly interesting to me. It's the thing you watch during your game, but…

Over the past few months, our team has been building more and more slidedecks using web frontend technologies with coding harnesses like Claude Code, but a common complaint is to make even small edits we need to edit the code either manually or via the harness. To avoid this loop, I ended up creating Bento, a single HTML file with everything you need in a slide tool including animations and shared editing. There's no install or cloud login, everything works offline. The default deck is around 560 KB and it doesn't need to fetch anything once you got it. Open it in a browser and then you can…

A few days ago I found myself trying out GLM 5.2 and was really positively impressed. The capabilities and security I was getting from this LLM are similar to those I've gotten from models like Claude or GPT, and this really surprised me. But then I thought, "I wonder how it would work on a normal computer like mine," and above all, "I wonder if it would work without going into OOM on a computer like mine." So I started working with the help of agents to test this possibility. I started converting the model to int4, understanding MTP usage, and if possible implementing DSA for long context.…

OpenSEO▲928Hello! For the last 2 months, I've been building OpenSEO. It's a user friendly UI wrapping the DataForSEO API which has high quality SEO data for keywords, backlinks, AI SEO and competitor research. Instead of paying $100+ per month, you buy DataForSEO credits and pay only for usage. The coolest thing about the project so far has been hearing about what people are building on top of it. People are using coding agents to quickly integrate with Google Search Console, Google Ads and building their own AI SEO and reporting features. Many were already building their own custom solutions around…
