Dreeve, a self-hosted dashboard for your sports and fitness data
I've been building this for a few years under the name "Statistics for Strava" but I renamed it to Dreeve recently because of Strava's recently changed API usage terms. They paywalled their API. You point it at your activity files (FIT/TCX/GPX) or connect a Strava account, and it gives you a dashboard with segment efforts, gear and maintenance tracking, a heatmap, monthly calendar view, milestones and a year-in-review. It runs as a Docker container, stores everything in SQLite, and nothing leaves your machine. Stack is PHP 8.5 + Symfony, SQLite, Docker Compose. Simple,…
In plain words
Dreeve is a self-hosted dashboard for analyzing sports and fitness activities. Users import activity files in FIT, TCX, or GPX formats or connect a Strava account to access features including segment efforts, gear maintenance tracking, heatmaps, monthly calendars, milestones, and year-in-review reports. The application runs in Docker using PHP 8.5, Symfony, and SQLite, keeping all data local on the user's machine. It is designed for individual users rather than multiple accounts.

In the maker’s words, at launch
Simple, straightforward and fast. Caveats: it's built around a single user, so there's no multi-tenant story. The AI workout assistant is optional and off unless you configure it. Segment data still comes from Strava if you want it, which is the one dependency I haven't been able to remove. Docs at https://docs.dreeve.app. Happy to answer any questions you have

I tried some web tools to track my workouts (specifically, running); some (like FitTrackee) came close, but I always found annoyances. So I decided to build my own. Specifically geared towards distance-based workouts, such as walking, running or cycling.

After decades of tracking my exercise programs in progressively more complex spreadsheets I eventually burned out on metrics and complicated periodization programs to the point where I had almost stopped exercising. I am now at a place where I simply want the minimal amount of structure and tracking to make sure I can maintain my fitness, so I boiled the entire concept down to what I felt was its essence: enough information and structure to remind you of what is needed today, and how it went on the same exercises last week. To reduce friction, the interface is kept as simple as possible.…

I might be the only SRE on Earth with his own bowling center. It's a more in-depth gig than you'd think. My family and I bought an abandoned 8-lane bowling center in the rural mid-west. In our small town there weren't many recreation options for families. You've heard of a food desert? This is an R&R desert. It had been abandoned for a good reason. The roof leaks, the electrical system was constantly surging, and my 70-year-old bowling equipment (still) doesn't work perfectly. The system that keeps your score is particularly interesting to me. It's the thing you watch during your game, but…

Over the past few months, our team has been building more and more slidedecks using web frontend technologies with coding harnesses like Claude Code, but a common complaint is to make even small edits we need to edit the code either manually or via the harness. To avoid this loop, I ended up creating Bento, a single HTML file with everything you need in a slide tool including animations and shared editing. There's no install or cloud login, everything works offline. The default deck is around 560 KB and it doesn't need to fetch anything once you got it. Open it in a browser and then you can…

A few days ago I found myself trying out GLM 5.2 and was really positively impressed. The capabilities and security I was getting from this LLM are similar to those I've gotten from models like Claude or GPT, and this really surprised me. But then I thought, "I wonder how it would work on a normal computer like mine," and above all, "I wonder if it would work without going into OOM on a computer like mine." So I started working with the help of agents to test this possibility. I started converting the model to int4, understanding MTP usage, and if possible implementing DSA for long context.…
