In plain words

Pipes is a visual programming tool that lets users build data workflows without code. Users place blocks on a canvas to fetch, manipulate, and transform data—such as combining multiple RSS feeds or filtering content. Each block processes data as it moves through the pipeline, with logic applied sequentially. The platform supports open standards, allows users to share their pipes with others, and enables forking existing workflows for customization. It recreates the functionality of the discontinued Yahoo Pipes service.

Blocks contain powerful logic to manipulate your data stream. Profit from and support the open web, by consuming and producing open standards. Share your pipe to help others, or fork existing pipes to get immediate results. It works similarly to how Yahoo! Pipes worked. You get a canvas area and can place blocks on it. First you enter data, for example by pointing a block to an RSS feed. Then you connect that block to other blocks. This data then moves through your pipe, block by block, and each block can manipulate it. A simple example is combining multiple RSS feeds into one and filtering that combined data stream for a keyword. Almost everything on the web can become the starting point…from pipes.digital

I often find myself in situations where I need to extract some data from a website, either as one time thing or periodically (and then watch for changes). Maybe I'm tracking stocks, or a delivery, or I want to know when tickets become available to the local sauna; maybe a friend called and asked "can you get me all data from that website into a spreadsheet?" (this happens surprisingly often) I used to write one-off scripts for that, often with Python or JavaScript, but I noticed I spend about one minute getting the right CSS selectors, and then another 10 minutes setting the rest of the…
