Engine Simulator
Build & dyno-tune real engines, now with on-device AI
What it does
Engine Simulator is a physics-based piston engine sandbox. The sound and motion come from a real rigid body simulation of the crank, pistons, valves, and combustion, not recordings. Start an engine, work the throttle, and tune its fuel and ignition maps in the ECU. Build one from scratch or describe what you want and have it generated by AI. Engine Simulator for iOS is an unofficial port. It is not affiliated with AngeTheGreat, the creator of the original open source Engine Simulator.
Engine Simulator builds, tunes and revs real piston engines with rigid-body physics, now on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Procedural 3D geometry, a full engine builder, ECU tuning, live dyno, OBD-II diagnostics, an on-device AI builder and a global leaderboard.
Build it, tune it, rev it. Rigid-body physics down to the crank degree, now on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Block, head and crank modelled from spec. One cylinder to V12, plus the weird stuff. Eleven sections of real engineering knobs. Set them once and the engine derives the rest. Brush ignition and fuel cells across load by RPM. Cells flood red when you push past safe. Real torque and power curves with peak callouts. Tune, run, retune until it pulls clean. Live wireframe scan. Real fault codes. Break it, then one tap to repair. Describe the engine you want. The model drafts the full spec, ready to fine-tune. A native Mac, iPhone and iPad app, built for Apple Silicon. The entire engine simulation…from enginesimulator.app

Open-Source AI Racing HarnessMay 2026 · elodin.systems · ▲76Hi I'm Dan from Elodin, making an open source real-time capable flight software simulation. For AI Grand Prix contestants, the wait for the Round 1 virtual qualifier simulation has been grueling. If you’re competing, check out our simulation harness to tide you over, built to match the published competition constraints and message format. It runs against real Betaflight, which we learned requires at least 1000 sensor samples per second to run real-time correctly. The competition warranted introducing a new feature to generate the camera sensor directly in the simulation loop. Typically…

I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.

Hey HN, Henry from Cactus here! We previously released Cactus Needle, a 14MB agentic LLM for tool call, device use, and structured extraction for phones, wearables, smart homes, small robots and microcontrollers. We got really great feedback here, and have now incorporated the suggestions to release Needle 2. The whole model is a single 14MB binary that runs a full session in 28MB of RAM; 45m parameters at 2bit compression. Needle hits 500 tokens/sec decode speed on a Raspberry Pi 5, sits between 400-1,500 tokens/sec on VR devices like Meta Quest 3S and Apple Vision Pro, and ranges…

Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok/s prefill and 1200 tok/s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
