Estima Platform
Construction toolkit: quick estimates, guides & calculators
What it does
Estima: free construction toolkit — get an engineering-grade cost estimate (real quantity takeoffs, regional material/labour rates, not a flat per-sqft guess) in under a minute. Won't replace a detailed quote from drawings, but gives you a serious starting number. Also includes in-depth build guides, 17+ site calculators, engineering insights, and EstimaOS to manage active builds. Free, worldwide, no signup.
Estima is a construction intelligence platform for anyone building something real. Plan your project, get an engineering-grade cost estimate, learn the standards behind the work, and manage active builds with EstimaOS — free, worldwide, no signup.
One platform for anyone building something real — from a boundary wall to a 132kV transmission line. Scope the work, price it with engineering-grade math, understand the standards behind it, and run the job day to day. No signup, no spreadsheet, no waiting on a callback from a contractor. Pick a project type, enter area or length, and choose your region — takes under a minute, no account required. Estima runs real quantity takeoffs and prices them against current, region-aware material and labour rates. Export a full PDF report, or send it straight into EstimaOS to track the build as work actually starts. Here's what comes out the other end — actual quantities, actual cost drivers, priced…from estima.uk

Hello HN! I found that picking out plausible but diverse skin tones for my digital art and game development projects was kind of difficult, and I got curious about if there was a way to define a color space that made it easy. I've built a color picker and procedural generation algorithm based on the space as well as a bunch of other fun js features and demos throughout the page that use the equations. If you find it interesting, I have lots of explanations of how I built it and what properties the space has. The methodology might be a bit shaky, but hopefully the result is as helpful for…

I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.
