Export Chrome Bookmarks

Export all Chrome bookmarks as JSON in one click.

Export Chrome Bookmarks launched on January 31, 2026 with 11 votes, #956 of 14,584 launches that month and more than 90% of that year's launches.

What it does

Chrome only exports bookmarks as HTML — messy and hard to work with. Most extensions ask for unnecessary permissions or send data somewhere. Export Chrome Bookmarks: click the icon, get a clean JSON file with your full bookmark tree. No account, no tracking, fully offline. Only two permissions — bookmarks and downloads. A few KB total. Great for backups, browser migration, or keeping a local copy of years' worth of saved links.

Chrome still doesn't let you export bookmarks as JSON natively. The built-in manager only does HTML. I wanted something minimal — no UI, no config, no data leaving my machine. So I built a small extension: click the toolbar icon, get your full bookmark tree as a JSON file. Two permissions (bookmarks + downloads), works offline, a few KB total.

Hey HN! I wanted to share something I built over the last few weeks: isometric.nyc is a massive isometric pixel art map of NYC, built with nano banana and coding agents. I didn't write a single line of code. Of course no-code doesn't mean no-engineering. This project took a lot more manual labor than I'd hoped! I wrote a deep dive on the workflow and some thoughts about the future of AI coding and creativity: http://cannoneyed.com/projects/isometric-nyc
