ffjson: faster json serialization in Go

ffjson: faster json serialization in Go launched on March 31, 2014 with 83 votes, #220 of 1,224 launches that month and more than 95% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 12 years on.

In plain words

ffjson is a code generation tool for the Go programming language that accelerates JSON serialization by producing static code for JSON encoding interfaces. Rather than relying on Go's standard encoding/json library, it generates optimized serialization code similar to approaches used in binary frameworks like Protocol Buffers. The tool is designed for Go developers who need faster JSON performance, with benchmarks showing significant speed improvements over Go's built-in JSON handling.

From the sources

ffjson is a project I have been hacking on for making JSON serialization faster in the Go programing language. ffjson works by generating static code for Go’s JSON serialization interfaces. Fast binary serialization frameworks like Cap’n Proto or Protobufs also use this approach of generating code. Because ffjson is serializing to JSON, it will never be as fast as some of these other tools, but it can beat the builtin encoding/json easily. The first example benchmark is Log structure that CloudFlare uses. CloudFlare open sourced these benchmarks under the cloudflare/goser repository, which benchmarks several different serialization frameworks. Under this benchmark ffjson is 1.91x faster…from journal.paul.querna.org

Hello HN! I want to introduce fastgron, my new project. fastgron is a JSON to GRON converter, built to be incredibly fast – it's 40 times faster than Gron. GRON is a tool for making JSON greppable, but it can slow down with larger files. With fastgron, even a 200MB JSON file can be converted in just 1 second. Key features include streaming conversion for memory efficiency and an optimized path reconstruction for faster operations. It leverages C++ and the simdjson and fast_io libraries for speed. I welcome all feedback, suggestions, or questions. Thank you!
