In plain words
File Distribution over DNS is a technical project that leverages DNS infrastructure to distribute files, repurposing the Domain Name System as a content delivery network. Created for developers and technical enthusiasts interested in unconventional networking approaches, the project demonstrates how DNS—traditionally used for translating domain names to IP addresses—can be adapted for file transfer purposes. The concept highlights creative uses of existing internet infrastructure.

This is the story of a one-afternoon hack that turned into a one-weekend hack. I woke up on Saturday with a silly idea: what would it be like to use content-defined chunking (CDC) and serve the chunks over DNS? DNS caching could make scaleout and incremental updates quite efficient, at least in theory. Strong hashing gives robust download integrity. DNS replication gives you a kind of high availability, even! TL;DR. It works, more or less, so long as your resolver properly upgrades to DNS-over-TCP when it gets a truncated UDP response. The immutable, strongly-named chunks are served in TXT records (!) and are cached by resolvers for a long time. This lowers load on the authoritative DNS…from eighty-twenty.org

Hi HN, I've been working on building a pipeline to create a DNS records database lately. The goal is to enable research as well as competitive landscape analysis on the internet. The dataset for now spans around 4 billion records and covers all the common DNS record types: A AAAA ANAME CAA CNAME HINFO HTTPS MX NAPTR NS PTR SOA SRV SSHFP SVCB TLSA TXT Each line in the CSV file represents a single DNS record in the following format: www.example.com,A,93.184.215.14 Let me know if you have any questions or feedback!

I saw this [0] pretty cool thread by user revskill, and wanted a quicker way to search through it, but also to keep them all in one place so I can read them at my leisure whenever I get time. Right now is like 60 lines of Ruby using Nokogiri, but I will certainly look into it further down the line and improve the list. There's a cronjob checking the thread every 12 hours but I will eventually shut that down and it will become static after that. There are some really awesome blogs in there. I really recommend going through the list, it made my day. [0] "Could you share your personal blog…
